FLEET

Cabair Integrated are very proud of their fleet of new Glass cockpit aircraft and simulators - single-engine Diamond Stars (DA40) and multi-engine Diamond Twin Stars (DA42). They have proved a great asset since their introduction in 2007, and have led to outstanding consistent successes in the Instrument Rating Skills Test.

Piper PA28 Warrior/Cadet

All training completed during the visual phases flown in Spain or Florida will be on the PA28 Warrior or Cadet.

These aircraft are equipped with conventional analogue instrumentation, powered by 160hp Lycoming petrol engines, and have a long established pedigree for ab initio training.

They provide an ideal platform for general handling exercises, transition to solo flight and VFR navigation. Full engineering backup for these aircraft is provided locally under approval/audit from Cabair.

Diamond DA-40 Diamond Star

The College operates 15 new DA-40s which are of composite construction and fitted with a Thielert 135hp turbocharged diesel engine. The aircraft is equipped with a FADEC engine/propeller control system operated by a single lever which helps greatly in reducing pilot workload.

The whole fleet is fitted with the Garmin 1000 twin screen navigation/avionics system making it the most advanced available for flight training. Pilots benefit from the comfort of wide bucket seats, ample panel space and excellent all-round visibility.

Diamond DA-42 Diamond Twin Star

The College operates 5 Diamond DA-42 Twin Stars providing the ideal Instrument Rating training platform.
This four seat twin engine aircraft will be utilised for CPL skill test general handling and the procedural
element of the instrument course - leading to the final Instrument Rating Skill Test. Capable of flying at relatively high speed when demanded by Air Traffic Control, the performance of this aircraft can be adjusted to meet the demands of both regulated airspace and student in the pursuit of continuous skills development.

The DA-42 is identically equipped to the DA-40 with the Garmin 1000 instrument panel facilitating a smooth transition to modern turboprop/jet aircraft type rating training. Preparation for the use of this
avionics/navigation system is achieved through a dedicated computer based training suite located on the
Cranfield Flight School campus.

The Simulators

The College operates four simulators (three Alsim FNPT2/one Frasca FNPT2) of which three are located in a dedicated Simulator Centre, a short distance from the Flight School. The fourth device is positioned in the Flight School at Requena. They are used for all aspects of the instrument rating flight syllabus - including route training using VOR, ADF, DME and ILS with twin-needle RMI and HSI displays. The Chief Simulator Instructor manages a team of Instructors, all of whom have extensive airline flying experience and fully appreciate the need for pilots to understand the value and significance of synthetic training.

The FNPT2 (AL200-DA42) allows for the delivery of 40 hours dual training for the Instrument Rating on a Fixed Training Device (FTD). This high quality training device is considered capable of simulator style training benefits which when combined with our observed flying programme allows the course to be completed with the minimum amount of multi-engine aircraft time.

On completion of Instrument Rating training and having satisfied all syllabus requirements for the issue of a JAR-FCL CPL/IR, Trainee Pilots will complete a Multi-Crew Co-operation Course (MCC) and a Jet Orientation Course (JOC).

The MCC comprises three days of CRM and related classroom time followed by four simulator sessions, allowing fifteen hours of shared time. The AL200 is configured as a Beech 200 twin turboprop aircraft, with pressurisation, flight director/full autopilot and EFIS. With several major European operators currently using turbo-prop aircraft, this is valuable experience. The JOC is completed on the AL200 configured as a Cessna Citation, and will give invaluable jet experience. This ten hour course is aimed predominantly at developing a trainee pilot’s jet handling skills in preparation for any subsequent jet type rating or airline simulator assessment.
