Our Integrated Programme offers the strongest and most cost-effective route to a professional licence.
See the Course Summary for basic course content.
See Flight School and Ground School for detail of how both are integrated into the programme.
Start dates are set at regular two-monthly intervals, with course size restricted to a maximum of 24 students per course to allow a comfortable student to instructor ratio. Performance and progress are continuously monitored throughout training in order that students can be encouraged to achieve the best possible results so allowing recommendation to airlines on graduation.
Applicants for the this course do not require previous flying experience. It is what is known as an "ab initio" course - meaning "from the beginning". However, we do find that many who come on these programmes already have PPLs, and those that do may apply to for an abridgement to the full course of training.
Experience clearly shows that those completing the Integrated course have an excellent chance of securing a First Officer position, since many of the major airlines are attracted to the integrated graduate when they come to recruiting new pilots. Putting a new low-hours pilot through line and type training is an expensive business, and airlines want to be sure they can handle the huge responsibility and pressure. It could be argued that a new pilot who has just been through a 56 week highly structured and fairly rigorous course of training is best suited to their needs. In our experience - and we have trained airline sponsored cadets for major airlines in the past - that the standardised, well-structured and airline-orientated nature of this training is regularly demanded by airlines world-wide.
On completion of the 56 week syllabus, the graduate will hold a JAA Commercial Pilot’s Licence with Instrument Rating (CPL/IR) - known as a Frozen ATPL. All students study theoretical knowledge to Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) standard, allowing the straightforward issue of this qualification as soon as the mandatory minimum flying experience has been achieved. This is 1,500 hours of total time, which must include 500 hours of multicrew flying.
Between graduation from the training course and accumulating 1,500 hours, the pilot acts as a First Officer, exercising the privileges of the CPL/IR, which is why, during this time, it is referred to as a Frozen ATPL.
Our Integrated Programme is a traditional "Integrated" programme where flying training and theoretical knowledge training are mixed together in one long course.
Cabair recommend that any student following the integrated course, should take out this policy. If for any medical reason the student is not able to complete training, the insurance will pay for the entire cost of training and expenses.
Proposals are made on an individual basis, but premiums are usually around £150 for the 62 week course.
Once a Commercial Licence has been issued, 'Loss of Training Insurance' can be changed to 'Loss of Licence Insurance', which again covers any medical condition that would result in the removal of Class 1 medcial status, and therefore loss of the Commerical Licence.
Note that once employment has been gained, the airline will take over the cost of this insurance.
Details of this insurance are sent out as part of the course registratrion process. be sure to ask for details earlier if you are interested.
