Cabair to use BA's 737 Simulator at Cranebank for JOC

Cabair International Aviation will use a 737-500 Simulator at British Airways Flight Training facilities at London Heathrow Airport to deliver the Jet Orientation Course (JOC) that forms the final part of their 15 month Integrated airline pilot programme.

The course will be conducted by current line pilots from the Flight Level 500 team.

737 full motion category D simulator

Cabair have negotiated use of the full motion device at Cranebank through their intermediary partner Flight Level 500 who provide all Cabair students with mentoring services. The impressive simulator is classified as a Category D device upon which type ratings can be delivered. Cabair to deliver a JOC of 20 hours flying time to each student, supported by briefings and debriefings.

Jet Orientation is designed to bridge the gap between flying a light aircraft and flying a commercial jet: some students can find it a struggle when moving from one to the other. Cabair's CEO Andy Cruise:

"We are very excited to be using BA's simulator at Cranebank. Our new 20 hour JOC on this device will give our students invaluable experience of handling a modern commercial airliner and will really enhance their chances of success in getting into the airlines. With our ultra-modern glass cockpit fleet of aircraft and simulators and our recent innovative new iPad system for ground training, this is the latest improvement to our already highly regarded Integrated Programme."

The Jet Orientation Course (JOC) will give each student 20 hours experience in five 4 hour blocks of flying: half will be as Pilot In Command, half as CoPilot. There will be full briefings and debriefings accompanying the flying. All transport between Cranfield and Cranebank will be included.

The new JOC will be incorporated into the Integrated Programme from the November course onwards and the price of that course will be published soon, to take into account this upgraded module plus other recent developments such as the new iPad Ground Training System which will commence from the July course.

Cabair students currently in training and yet to commence Jet Appreciation now have the option of upgrading this part of their training by purchasing the new JOC. Anyone interested should contact Mike Palmer to arrange on an individual basis.

Delivered by current airline pilots

The JOC course will be delievered by current serving line pilots rather tha dedicated flight instructors. PIlots will come from Flight Level 500 who provide all Cabair Integrated students with one-to-one mentoring services and airline preparation. This is a unique feature to Cabair and will ensure our students have the very best up-to-date information.

Cabair and ProPilot take aviation training into new era.

Cabair International Aviation has chosen the revolutionary Padpilot learning system for its integrated ATPL courses starting from this July. They join ProPilot, the new premier distance learning ground school, to lead the way in ATPL training.

Says Cabair's CEO Andy cruise:

"We are delighted that the Integrated students and staff at our Cranfield Training Centre are to receive the benefits of this new  learning system using the iPad. Every student will receive an Ipad2  upon commencement of the course and it is theirs to keep.

For Cabair, this is the first in a series of major enhancements we are adding to  our flagship Integrated Programme, and one of the most exciting, since the iPad is fast proving to be a revolutionary learning platform.  It  is already established in many airlines as the operational tool of  choice for the future, so we are doubly pleased in that respect."

The Padpilot learning platform is a unique way of studying the most up  to date ATPL material.

Graham Cownie, ProPilot's Head Of Training, explains:

"Padpilot has been written and produced from the ground up as an exceptional set of airline related manuals and complete operational system all based on the iPad. It contains interactive progress tests, video teaching sequences, 3D models which rotate at the touch of a finger and extensive animations of aircraft, and even human physiology, all add to the rich learning environment." “The training benefits continue into flying with the iPad presenting all aeroplane type and phases manuals, as well as containing all company operational paperwork”.

For ground training the combination of accessible manual content and interactive delivery platform enables students to understand and apply their knowledge, rather than just rote learning to pass exams. This is something that Jacqui Suren and Paul Hardy, Chief Ground Instructors at ProPilot and Cabair, are passionate about.

Jacqui says ,’We are training the commanders and training captains of the future, it is essential that their ground training embeds core professional knowledge they can build as they progress through their careers’.

Cabair also have built brand new classrooms at Cranfield University's Innovations Centre - where the Simulator Centre is housed. The classrooms ar equipped with thelatest multi-media equipment to compliment the iPad Learning System.

AVIATION INDUSTRY REPORT

As we all know, the aviation industry is cyclical and in the last year or so has certainly created its fair share of both good and bad news. For those of you considering entering commerical pilot training, when to start your training can be a crucial decision to make.

Often the best time to start training is when the industry is exiting a downturn with the plan to be completing your training at the same time the airlines start recruiting again. But how do you know when that is?

CCAT has prepared a short summary of the positive news of the last few weeks indicating which airlines are recruiting or planning to do so in the near future.
