It is a regretable fact of life that traditional airline sponsorship effectively disappeared after the events of 9/11. The huge slump in the airline industry that occurred after those terrible attacks saw many thousands of pilots made redundant and many hundreds of cadets already going through training were withdrawn overnight. However, one of the worst effects was to see the end of airline funded selection and sponsorship.
However, the industry recovered a lot quicker than anyone would have imagined - thanks to the emergence of the low cost carriers such as Ryanair, Easyjet and Flybe and things returned to business as usual - but for one element: airline sponsorship. It is unlikely to return with the same airline contribution and participation as we saw back in the seventies and eighties, unless, there is a pilot shortage of such huge proportions that airlines simply have no alternative. In the meantime, the vast majority of students are self funded.
Of course, when an airline does contribute anything towards the cost of training - for any number of cadets, no matter how small - it should be welcomed and applauded.
On this page we set out any scheme which Cabair International are involved with, and one scheme we are delighted to offer which Cabair themselves are providing the financial contribution of £10,000 towards an Integrated course. See below for further details.
The part-sponsored scheme which Cabair operates with Flybe has been running for over 15 years. In fact when Flybe first first introduced this scheme in 1995, they chose Cabair College of Air Training (CCAT) as their Training Provider. Over 60 pilots have benefited as a result of the Airline’s initial support and excellent career structure, with several now promoted to Captain. The scheme with Cabair runs once a year and for the first time, the forst and last elements of the programme - the theoretical knowledge and the jet orientation training will be delievered at Flybe's new Training Academy at Exeter. Further details can be found here.
Cabair International from Summer 2011 making available one hundred sponsorships of £10,000 each towards places on their newly enhanced Integrated JAA ATPL Programme. The Programme has recently undergone a series of improvements and enhancements, and the current cost of the course now stands at £76,000. Those candidates qualifying for the sponsorship will effectively pay the reduced sum of £66,000.
The sponsorships are open to anyone who is in a position to commence training within six months of passing the Cabair pilot assessment.
Cabair's CEO Andy Cruise:
"We have been running a very successful campaign in the Caribbean and South America recently, and have given away $1 million of scholarships to get new students into FAA license training. This JAA Integrated sponsorship scheme mirrors that USA model and we hope to be helping 100 pilots with a financial boost to start their airline pilot training.”

We often require flight instructors to instruct at our two training centres in Florida, at Kissimmee Gateway Airport and Merritt Island Airport on the Space Coast. This is a great opportunity to enter a most rewarding profession and to teach others to fly in a beautiful environment. When we need to recruit Flight Instructors to work in Florida Cabair are willing to sponsor ex-students 75% of the cost of a Flight Instructor Course (FIC) in exchange for a 12 month contract instructing in Florida. Candidates must either be currently in training with Cabair or have completed an Integrated or Modular programme in the past.
